DNR’s and CPR

Do Not Resuscitate orders are put in place when a dying person doesn’t want CPR in the event that they ‘code’, meaning their heart stops. However, sometimes DNR’s will be ignored and CPR– an often violent and futile process- will be done on a patient anyway, causing what could have been a peaceful death to become quite dramatic.
